Miss World – Champagne – Sabrage

On Friday evening I attended the AGM of the Confrérie du Sabre d’Or at the Millenium Gloucester Hotel.

Julian White addresses the assembled throng

The meeting was opened by Julian White – Knight Commander of the Order of the Golden Sabre and lasted a healthy 30 minutes before the real business of the day took place – the sampling of Champagne. It was also the opportunity to introduce new members to the traditional method of opening Champagne (and to which the Confrérie is dedicated) – with a sword!

Ann Sidney (former (Miss World) completes a successful Sabrage

One of the first to complete a successful Sabrage for the first time was Ann Sidney a former Miss World.

Ann is invested as a Sabreur by Julian White

Ann was then invested as a Sabreur in the order personally by Julian – a task undertaken with due sobriety.

A final Photocall - Anne with Sir Ned Purvis KCB

A final photo call took place (from l-r Lady Sue Purvis, Ann Sidney, Sir Ned Purvis, Elaine Gordon, Linda Roberts) before the environmentally friendly disposal of the Sabraged bottles and their contents was undertaken.
