Considering Vietnam Conference – Don McCullin

On Friday I attended the Imperial War Museum “Considering Vietnam Conference” in London.

Sir John Tusa and Don McCullin

For me there were 2 highlights of the day – firstly the opening session “In Conversation: Don McCullin and Sir John Tusa”.

Don McCullin

Secondly the exhibition “Shaped by War – Photographs by Don McCullin”.

It was a truly humbling and inspirational experience.

On a Wing and a Prayer

Yesterday evening Pam and I were invited as guests of Melvin (The Mayor of Havering) and Joan Wallace to a special performance of A Wing and a Prayer (The story of RAF Hornchurch) at the Queens Theatre Hornchurch.

The Romford Band of the British Legion

Prior to the performance were were treated to a performance at Langtons by the Romford British Legion Band – or the Royal British Legion Band of Corps of Drums Romford to give it the correct title.

A Very Loud Finale

As a finale the Band marched very loudly through the dining hall accompanied by enthusiastic clapping.

The Mayor of Havering on Stage with the Lightnin Drama Group

The performance by the Lightnin Drama Group was both moving and inspiring and a credit to local theatre.

The Doe Show 2012

Last Tuesday I had the great pleasure to have been asked to photograph the 52nd Doe Show near Maldon.

A Full Crowd was in Attendance

An amazing selection of Equipment

Despite the weather a full crowd packed into the showground.

It was the big toys that fascinated me – I was tempted, but finances and a lack of suitable play area prevented me bringing one home.

Mud N Madness

On Saturday I was asked to photograph the first ever ‘Mud and Madness’ event for Saint Francis Hospice at the Stubbers Activity Centre Upminster.

Matchroom Sport's Mandy Fox

There were teams from Matchroom Sport and the local newspaper, as well as many staff, families and supporters.

The Ice had to be broken over the Mud

It was freezing cold, and the ice covering the mud had to be broken for the event which raised over £10,000.

For the techies it was an opportunity to bring my Nikon 200-400 f4 out to play (all images shot at f4) .

Yul Brynner and The Wildlife Photographer of the Year

Yesterday accompanied by the MPA Regional Chairman Kevin Pengelly and Regional Supervisor David Islip, I visited the Yul Brynner and The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibitions in Central London. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition was held at the Natural History Museum which holds the largest collection of Fossils and Dinosaurs in the UK outside of the 18th Century town of Darnton.

Kevin Pengelly FMPA FBIPP

We then visited the Victoria and Albert Museum which provided an amazing insight into the History and Development of Photography.

Of particular interest to me were the works of Leica Photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Thomas

My Flatcoated Retriever Thomas recently had his 8th Birthday – Years not months but you could hardly tell he still (mis)behaves like a puppy.

Thomas

A birthday photograph using green screen technology was called for.

By using this technology for your event or portrait you are only limited by your imagination as to the background.
